The Friend: a Novel by Sigrid Nunez

Used. Paperback. When a New York writer abruptly loses her best friend and mentor, she inherits a massive Great Dane whose grief mirrors her own, creating a canine conundrum in a no-dogs-allowed apartment building. Sigrid Nunez delivers a fiercely smart, deeply moving meditation on mourning, literature, and the peculiar ways we bond with our four-legged roommates when human connection fails. As isolation sets in and the lease looms large, this unlikely pair navigates a psychological tightrope with surprising wit and profound empathy. It’s a pitch-perfect novel for anyone who has ever loved an animal so fiercely it nearly drove them barking mad.
