Banania - French Chocolate Brand Advertising Poster, 1915
Banania, France's beloved chocolate drink brand, became a cultural icon through its bold vintage advertising. Born in 1912, the brand's most famous image — the smiling Senegalese infantryman in his red and blue uniform against a vivid yellow background — was introduced in 1915 and remains one of the most recognizable posters in French advertising history.
Made from cocoa, banana flour, cereals, honey and sugar, Banania was distributed to the French Army during World War I, with the now-famous slogan Y'a bon ("It's good"). The original advertising has since become a treasured piece of French cultural heritage, and vintage posters of this iconic image are highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
